LetterOne pays tribute to Maya Plisetskaya in London

LetterOne was the principle sponsor of the Ave Maya Gala at the London Coliseum in tribute to the legendary prima ballerina Maya Plisetskaya on Sunday 6th March.

Leading ballet dancers from around the world came to London for one night to dance Maya’s favourite roles in her honour. They were accompanied by the English National Ballet Philharmonic Orchestra.



Maya was one of the greatest dancers of the 20th century, who influenced and redefined her art.  As a soloist, she was the embodiment of the Bolshoi Ballet for decades. 
 
At the London Coliseum leading ballet dancers from Bolshoi Theatre, National Ballet of Spain, La Scala, Bavarian State Ballet, The Royal Ballet, English National Ballet, Mariinsky Theatre, San Francisco Ballet, Vienna State Ballet, Mikhailovsky Ballet, Paris Opera Ballet, American Ballet Theatre danced her favourite roles. 

The evening of ballet, which was originally planned by Maya herself, before her death in Munich last year, was intended to celebrate five decades of ballet and inspire future generations of ballerina’s. It took place in her honour to celebrate her life and work. 
 
When Maya she died, in the obituaries that followed, the Daily Telegraph said “Plisetskaya was the Supreme star of Russian ballet”; The Guardian commented; “Russian ballerina regarded as one of the greatest dancers of the 20th century who was for many years prevented from appearing in the west”; and the New York Times said “Maya Plisetskaya, one of the greatest ballerinas of the 20th century and virtually the embodiment of the Bolshoi Theatre for decades”.
